Curry's Chapel

Curry’s Chapel Cemetery is in section fifteen located on the east side of 375 east between 300 and 400 north.

The earliest existing grave markers tells the death of nine year old Moses Curry who died 11 November 1846. History of Hancock County, By J.H Binford states, “First burials in Curry Cemetery were Allen Curry and Lucinda Simmons, Son and daughter off William Curry.

Methodist meetings in the neighborhood were held as early as 1830 but the permanent organization was not official until 1834 when “meetings were held in the homes of James Parks, Moses VanGilder and others…”

About 1842 a log church building was erected by the congregation and named Curry’s Chapel because so many of the Currys belonged to it.

The Cemetery is independent of the church, maintained by endowment and governed by a board of directors whose current president is Norman Brooks.
